Story | Hillier Bartley

Hillier Bartley was launched in Autumn Winter 2015 by long-term collaboration Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley.

The duo first worked together in 1999 on Bartley's eponymous label 'Luella', while Hillier went on to consult for various brands including Marc by Marc Jacobs, Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney, and Loewe. In 2013 the pair were reunited as Creative Directors of Marc by Marc Jacobs, which ultimately sowed the seeds for the launch of their own brand, Hillier Bartley.
Hillier Bartley was born out of a personal question of how they, and consequently other women, should dress as they age. This prompted the realization that as 40-year-olds, they wanted to feel more womanly and more elegant, The brand combines masculine elegance with rakish femininity, and plays with the notion of mixing the English aristocracy with street style influences.
The brand focuses on timeless Ready-to-Wear and Accessories to create a collection which h is unique, pure and personal, combined with an uncompromising commitment to craftsmanship, fabric, and attention to detail.
Katie and Luella have worked together in different ways. They put all experience into making something that's a reflection of us, of what they want to wear. Hillier Bartley is a culmination of everything they have learnt as a designer and women and is purely and defiantly about the clothes and fabrics.
The duo looked at the woman they admire, what they want to wear and the inspirations that have been close to us for ages. It's about a woman their age, indie by heart, rakish and irreverent by nature, who is maturing into refinement and naturalness.
