Situated in the heart of Notting Hill , Couverture & the Garbstore was launched in 2008 by designers Emily Dyson and Ian Paley. Housed in a three-story converted period townhouse c, this Notting Hill style haven transports you through an eclectic edit of womenswear, menswear, accessories and homewares with a gentle, welcoming ease. Situated within the diverse and vibrant streets of Portobello and Notting Hill - they provide the perfect backdrop for this hidden London gem.
Deliberately eschewing big name brands in favour of something more intuitive and authentic, the destination store focuses on niche independent labels, exclusive collaborations, championing emerging talent and independent labels with a story to tell. These carefully curated collections perfectly embody the 'shop independent' philosophy that Couverture and the Garbstore stand by.
The lower ground floor sees Ian Paley's menswear brand Garbstore, which comes to life with a collection of garments and accessories that reference clothing produced after the Second World War or 'unfamiliar vintage', with each piece re-imagined and made 'historically new'. In addition to the eponymous menswear brand, the lower ground floor also plays host to a selection of cult International brands, rare books and collectable ephemera, many of which are exclusive to the UK.
The ground and galleried first floors are dedicated to the Couverture collections and include womenswear and accessories, children's and baby-wear, toys, jewelry, home accessories, furniture and covetable vintage finds. The upper floor is a bewitching world of idiosyncratic homewares from cosy throws to quirky objects and collectibles.
Recentlly, Architectural practice Alexander Martin Architects (AMA) has redesigned the interiors of Couverture & The Garbstore, a lifestyle store in Notting Hill, West London.AMA has installed a new clothing display system with bespoke feature walls that can adapt from season to season. The system is based on a grid formation, with pegs for hanging different clothing items and a plywood backing.
Available Online and in London, Couverture & the Garbstore is the definitive one-stop shopping destination for all the unique, inspiring and perhaps a little idiosyncratic.
